What is Pet Insurance?

Pet insurance helps owners manage the cost of unexpected vet bills. It provides financial protection, ensures pets can access the best care, and gives peace of mind by spreading costs through regular premiums. Policies vary, but the main purpose is to make treatment more affordable and accessible if a pet becomes ill or injured unexpectedly.

It also helps avoid difficult decisions based on cost alone, so pets can receive the right treatment when they need it most. Many policies cover long-term conditions, specialist referrals, or complementary therapies, adding extra support over a pet’s lifetime. Ultimately, pet insurance gives owners confidence that they can provide the best possible care, whatever the future brings.

Pet Insurance at Edhen Vets

At Edhen Vets, we believe pet insurance should give owners peace of mind—helping to budget for the unexpected and ensuring we can provide the very best treatment when it’s needed most.

Traditional insurance, however, can be frustrating. Complicated terms, exclusions, and rising premiums as pets age often mean claims aren’t fully covered, leaving owners with unexpected bills at the stage of life when insurance is most needed.

That’s why we’ve partnered with Pet Proactive to create a new kind of insurance. Our policies offer lifetime cover for treatment and referrals directly through our practice, making things simpler, clearer, and fairer.

For clients who are happy to choose Edhen Vets as their main veterinary practice, this approach takes away the worry of unexpected bills—and for most, it will save money over their pet’s lifetime.

Complete Medical Cover

The policies give you and your vet the freedom to choose the best treatment or referral for your pet, with up to £12,000 of vet fee cover and up to £1,000 for complementary care.

Always Fairly Priced

The premiums are based on your local vet practice’s pricing, helping to keep cover affordable as your pet grows older so they can stay insured for life.

Certainty Of Cover

Any pre-existing conditions that affect your policy are confirmed upfront, so you’ll know exactly where you stand before making a claim.

Claim Through Your Vet

To make a claim, simply speak to reception or give us a call to discuss. If you claim, you’ll only pay one excess per policy year — not per condition.

Treatment Takes Priority

We strongly believe every unwell pet deserves proper care — that’s why your premium won’t rise just because you’ve made a claim.

Emergency Treatment

If your pet needs emergency care while you’re away from your home practice, you'll be covered for treatment at another veterinary practice.
